Week In The Life 2014

Finally after a month of anticipation and preparation, The Week In The Life 2014 is here. I'm super excited to do this because: 1. It's my birthday week and 2. Hubby is also taking his photos using his camera. This is going to be fun. As you can see the foundation pages is already done. Having it set up for me before hand makes it much easier to succeed with this project.

day card+journaling card (index card+scratch papers, sewn together)

It's been awhile since I last use my mom's sewing machine for my scrapbooking projects and it never seize to make me happy.

It's not perfect but it's ok. I like it this way. :)

October Read-Update

My original plan was to stick with my October to read list but the amount of books available for me to read is too much (in a good way) and I can't finish my list because I keep on sneaking around my SD card to check my growing collection of books to read. I know that's crazy. I am crazy with my Aldiko book reader. It revolutionized the concept of reading to my hearts content. I was taken several times in a day or week of October somewhere else far from where I am in reality (I was in our bed, in my jammies) I seriously love traveling with my brain and imagination. It feels so good to be able to succumb to a good book. Going back to my reading list, as of this writing I was able to finish the list below and I still have one more week to go. Wish me luck. :)

  • Just Remember to Breathe (Thompson Sisters Book 2) by Charles Sheehan-Miles
  • The Dark Proposal (The End of Eternity Book 1) by Megan Cashman
  • Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira
  • Accidents of Marriage: A Novel by Randy Susan Meyers
  • Fifty Shades Freed: Book Three of the Fifty Shades Trilogy by E.L. James
  • The Billionaire and the Cleaner by Sam Crescent
  • Parenting- Illustrated with Crappy Pictures by Amber Dusick
  • When Parents Text by Lauren Kaelin, Sophia Fraioli
  • Celebrity Diss and Tell by Boze Hadleigh
  • Tangled by Emma Chase
  • Why Men Marry Bitches: A Woman's Guide to Winning Her Man's Heart-10/29

Reading Rituals

This might sound a bit weird to you but I really can't start reading without doing this so called "rituals" of mine. It's like taking a shower before going to work. Well, of course I only do this with print books. The book needs to be cover with plastic. The reason for that is, I don't like my book to be super worn out even if I bought them second-hand. I read mostly in our bed but sometimes if I'm going somewhere that requires waiting (doctor's clinic, etc.) I carry it around.

I leave the price tags because I love to see how much I save and where did I purchased it.

I used stickers to write date of start and date of finish. Motivates me to read more.

then stick it in front of the book. This way I can easily see it and inspires me to finish the book.

by doing this I was able to track how long it take me to finish a book and how many did I read within a given time.

Just Remember to Breathe by (Thompson Sisters Book 2)

Just Remember to Breathe (Thompson Sisters Book 2)-is a stunning and heartwarming story about getting a second chance with your first love. Once I started it I couldn't stop. The story is told through Dylan and Alex’s point of view. I love knowing their thoughts behind their actions. I was completely blown away. This was an unforgettable read for me because it was incredibly believable. There was nothing in this story that was a stretch. Everything happens in real life. This book is absolutely worth reading. Here's my ultimate favorite line:
"You still smell like strawberries, and it's breaking my heart."

Green Salad with Strawberry-Sherry Vinaigrette

Once a week, I prepare salad for dinner. I usually used whatever we have in our pantry. I have been trying to incorporate more salads into our dinner rotation and loving it. The secret to a really good salad is serving it with crisp and refreshing lettuce. I learned this years ago (from a restaurant I used to work) and it really does work. This trick makes them more crisp and refreshing with minimal time and effort. You can also do this with white onion. Soaking onions in ice water for 10 or 15 minutes mellows out the flavor. This trick makes them palatable even to those who don't like onions.

How to Crisp Lettuce/Onions
  1. Put ice into a large bowl.
  2. Put lettuce/onions (washed) into the bowl.
  3. Fill the bowl with water, keeping the lettuce as fully submerged as possible.
  4. Wait 10-15 minutes.
  5. Remove the lettuce from the water and dry it in a salad spinner.
  6. Serve immediately.

Ingredients:
Lettuce: Romaine & Lola Rosa
Black olives
crab nuggets
tomatoes
onion rings
cream cheese
chili flakes
toasted garlic flakes

For Strawberry-Sherry Vinaigrette:
Sherry wine vinegar
strawberry preserve
chili flakes

Instructions:
Deep-fry crab nuggets in hot oil until golden brown. Put in a strainer with paper towels to remove excess oil. set aside. Combine all vinaigrette ingredients in a container then mix. Refrigerate. Soak lettuce & onions in ice water for 10 or 15 minutes.Remove the lettuce from the water and dry it in a salad spinner. Mix all salad ingredients in salad bowl. add the vinaigrette by spoon fulls and toss to desired taste.

The Dark Proposal by Megan Cashman

The Dark Proposal (The End of Eternity Book 1) is about Claire who has to weigh the decision of accepting or rejecting what her vampire boyfriend Daniel has demanded. I found Daniel to be evil and abusive. Claire is in a abusive relationship. The way Daniel manipulates, controls, and threatens Claire was enraging, and on top of that Claire kind of goes numb and just goes with it, as sadly happens in many abusive relationships.

With all the warning signs about Daniel, she ignored them all. Even though he was cold and aloof to her throughout much of their relationship. I know a woman in love is able to overlook a lot of things. There's no denying the attraction to bad boys. We do crave excitement and wild passion but ultimately we want someone we can rely on, someone who cares for us.

It was very different from The Twilight Saga. It is not your typical love story. But the story was very interesting and I did like it. I do recommend the book if you are looking for something different.

The Twelve Days of Christmas by Trisha Ashley

I picked up The Twelve Days of Christmas because I wanted to read at least one Christmas-themed story. It's fairly predictable, but it just makes you feel good and warm inside. It has everything a Christmas should have: crazy families and lots of food.

The story revolves around Holly, a young widow who doesn't celebrate Christmas due to bad memories of what happened to her around Christmas time. When she is asked by her boss at the house sitting agency she works for if she would like to look after a remote house in Lancashire, she jumps at the chance for an escape from the surrounding festivities.

Each chapter starts with an extract from her grandmother's journal that leaves Holly wondering. Food was a central theme throughout the novel. The book was certainly festive and I really enjoyed the plot.

Grocery Haul

Instead of sharing a once a week grocery finds, I decided to post it after our grocery shopping. Our grocery is good for two people (hubby and I) and our food supplies exactly last for two weeks. We avoid food waste and keep a stockpile of items that we use on a regular basis. We live near a wet market that's why I don't stock up on fresh vegetables and meat. I buy them daily.

Crab Nuggets ( 51.40), Cooked Ham (50.10), Hamburger Patties (47.80)

Dutchmill Yogurt Drink (8.50) each, Lactasoy Soymilk (31.65) each

Molinera Green & Black Olives (48.00) each

Philadelphia Cream Cheese (145.70)

Ibero Olive oil (214.75)

Pretzel Crisp (15.00)

Magnolia Cheese Pimiento (36.30)

Pandan leaves (7.50)

Turning Lunch Into Dinner

For the last 6 months I've been preparing sandwiches for hubby's packed lunch. The idea of homemade sandwich with different filling everyday made him look forward with his lunch and it made me feel at ease knowing he was eating healthy food.
But, December is almost here and you know what happens during Christmas season. Gaining extra pounds is not impossible. So, we decided to turn or lunch menu into dinner and eat rice every other day during weekdays and lunch only during weekends. I'm really glad I don't have a picky husband.

Fifty Shades Trilogy

I devoured the entire Fifty Shades Trilogy: Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, Fifty Shades Freed 3 in less than 4 days and I didn't care that the books aren't particularly well-written.They were entertaining and I enjoyed every minute of reading it. The reason for that is, When I read, I just read and get lost with the story and characters. I became a spectator as the plot unfolds. I didn't nitpick on bad grammar or wrong spelling as long as I understand it. It's totally fine with me. But of course, I noticed a few things that made my " inner goddess" gasp but my self conscience choose to ignore it and move on.

Just for fun, I decided to Google Fifty Shades Trilogy: Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, Fifty Shades Freed 3-volume Boxed Set reviews and laugh till my jaw hurts with what they thought about it. It was hilarious. This is the best review in my opinion. I just love the timeline.

How to Take Your Art into the Next Dimension with Cricut

**This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.

It started out as a doodle, something small, casually tossed in the margin of your grocery list. But somehow this graphic element took over and before you knew it, it became the decorative element to everything in your world. Unfortunately all those minute details that you added make it virtually impossible to transform it into the third dimension. Not true. If you can print it, you can cut it with the Cricut Explore machine.

Now with the newest feature of the Cricut Explore machine, you can choose your image (either your own or one of 50,000+ in the Cricut Design Lab), flatten the image and then click 'Go'. Once printed, the Cricut Explore machine works its magic to bring your 2-dimensional idea into the 3rd dimension.

Take a look at this super short instructional video (less than 4 minutes) and see just how easy it can be…
