A house full of dogs

Our house is not only filled with love but also with dogs. Yes, my family is a dog lover. We have 7 (4 girls and 3 boys) rumbustious but sweet dogs who loves to play around the house, sleep on the couch and chase cats in our front lawn then go back inside the house with dirt in their paws. The playing is OK with my mom (who loves to keep the house clean) but the dirt they bring in is a big no-no. My mother asked me if I can search online for pet shoe boots and luckily, I stumbled SAMMYdress. I was surprised to know that they have a wide range of products not just clothing for women. That made me and my mom happy. I end up spending a couple of hours window shopping. I really had fun browsing. I asked my mom to list down the items she think we need for our dogs. Want to know what we pick? Read on.

Here's our favorites from SAMMYdress fur babies stuff:

Our dogs loves a good massage when they take a bath and I'm definitely sure this will be their favorite reward for behaving nicely while taking their weekly wash and its pink (which happens to be my favorite color) A steal for $2.03! I can't wait to use this

Our fur boys shed a lot and I mean a LOT. Sometimes the amount of hair I collected while swiping the floor drives me crazy. This will be a great help for me to keep my sanity.
I adore this cutie. This is what my mom want for our fur babies. It's so cute and I want one for myself, If only I can fit to it! LOL.

A lot of good, cutie, stuff for my fur babies on SAMMYdress. I wish and hope I can buy them all but my mom have a budget for only a few.

Book Goal

At the beginning of the month, I shared the books I plan to read. It was a lot. But I have a reading schedule that will help me achieve my GOAL. It was the perfect plan. Then life happened.

Few days before The 36th Manila International Book fair 2015 the marketing manager of Stick-ee confirmed my scrapbooking demo and I fainted (well not really, that was an exaggeration) I was so happy and nervous at the same time. I can't believe it. It was a dream of mine to teach scrapbooking. I'm thinking, years of playing with papers and glue will prepare me for that moment but believe me, it didn't. It made me more nervous and I keep on asking my self if I can really do it. The days before the event was a torture. I'm having trouble sleeping because I keep on thinking all the possible scenario (most of it tragic) on how the event will be and because of that I was not in the mood for reading. I can't concentrate. The reading take a back seat and there's nothing I can do but to wait till the event is done. Finally, the day came and the scrapbooking demo was a success! I can finally go back to reading but life have another plan.

Something personal happened that made me lost my mojo for reading. I was worried. We all are. Hubby and I were traumatized. We didn't anticipated to witness that but we did. It was horrible and we were heart broken for awhile but things got better and we slowly moved on. Happy days are here again.

Mojo is back and finally I was able to read. I read as if there's no tomorrow. I was able to finished Barbara the Slut and other people by Lauren Holmes and currently reading The Marriage of Opposites by Alice Hoffman. Two more days and September is officially over and there's no way that I can catch up with the remaining books. So, I decided to just continue reading till I'm done with the September read and do the review next month.

Gazelle's Value Propositions

**This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.

I was perusing Gazelle's website the other day and came across a few tidbits that I thought you'd find interesting ...

Remember the Motorola RAZR? That was actually the first trade-in that Gazelle accepted. Shortly thereafter, Apple released the iPhone 3G, which created the first generation of obsolete phones (iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, anyone?). Since then, Gazelle has paid out more than $200 million to customers for their devices!

Although there are a number of options for purchasing pre-owned smartphones and tablets online, I know first-hand that there are key things that Gazelle offers that helps ensure you won't waste your time or money buying a gently-used device. For instance:
  • Gazelle performs a 30+-point inspection on all their devices (iPhones, Galaxy phones, and iPads), which guarantees that every feature of the device is tested and is of the highest quality before it's sold to you. This is also backed by a 30-day return policy.
  • Because Gazelle Certified devices mean no contracts or strings attached, you can upgrade your device at up to 40% less than buying a new one and avoid being tied to an expensive two-year contract that you might not need. You can keep your carrier, or go with a new one. The choice is yours.
  • You can also easily trade-in your used iPhone, iPad, iPod, MacBook, AppleTV, and other smartphones and smart devices to Gazelle for cash in three easy steps.

Step 1: Select your gadget from a list of options on Gazelle's "Trade-In" page, answer a few questions, and then Gazelle provides you with an offer for your device.

Step 2: For items worth $1 or more, it's free to ship your device to Gazelle. Once your trade-in is received, the device is inspected to make sure its condition matches your evaluation.

Step 3: Payment. If the device matches your description, Gazelle will pay you in the form of a check, an gift card, or via PayPal. Payment takes about a week once Gazelle receives your device.
If you want to sell your old phone or device and get a fair, cash price for it, Gazelle is the safest, easiest, most reliable way to go. And if you want to upgrade your device without having to pay retail rates or deal with a poor-quality purchase, make your life easy and shop Gazelle Certified.

Scrapbooking demo with Stick-ee @ The 36th Manila International Book fair 2015

The day has come. This is it. There's no turning back. I'm having cold feet while waiting at the lobby with hubby. I need to calm myself and believe that everything will turn out fine. I can do this.

I'm going to do a scrapbooking demo and it was so cool I can't hardly breath. It was beyond amazing. This is my first public demo and I'm nervous if people would be interested in participating when their main agenda is to buy books. I was wrong. They got curious and started coming in.

We only need 12 participants and as much as we want, we can't accommodate all those who want to participate.

Yes, Real men do scrapbooking and have fun in the process.

A mix of boys and girls; Men and Women; Young and Old.

That was crazy. Even those people beyond the line can't help themselves but participate. Made me so happy just by looking at this pictures and having it witness in real life.

The one hour demo was too short but we all had fun and looking forward to next year. :)

Why Gazelle is a great place to purchase high-quality certified pre-owned devices

**This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.
Over the past few weeks, I've been sharing with you why you'd be wise to trade-in your old smartphone to Gazelle. It's not only super simple, you'll also earn cash in the process. But once you've traded-in your old devices, you'll likely be in the market for a replacement. And once again, Gazelle is the place to turn to. They have an incredible selection of devices that have been gently used, but are in like-new condition because they've all gone through Gazelle's 30+-point inspection process. Here are a few other reasons why Gazelle is the smart place to shop for your next device:

  • Price and Affordability - Pre-owned devices typically cost less than their brand new counterparts of the same make and model. At a time when brand new smartphones often cost more than $500 or even close to $1,000, a gently-used smartphone can save you up to 50 percent or more off original pricing.
  • Test-Drive Advantage - Instead of buying an expensive, brand-new smartphone that you might end up disliking soon afterward, you could purchase a used or refurbished device with a similar brand or operating system to the new phone that interests you. This way, you’ll get to test-drive that type of phone before making a significant investment in the new device of your choice.
  • Better for the Environment - When you buy a gently-used device, you’re engaging in a form of recycling. Old gadgets and devices are otherwise disposed of, contributing to pollution. New phones require manufacturers to deplete more of the earth’s raw materials. By buying a pre-owned device, you’re investing in sustainability and a cleaner environment.
  • Low Risk, High Reward - Many people want a practical phone that they don't have to worry about how to use or what the consequences will be if it gets exposed to wear and tear. Unfortunately, most carriers don't offer the type of entry-level smartphones that appeal to cost-conscious consumers. The solution is to purchase a certified pre-owned device that will be serviceable and functional without the cost and risk.
  • Great for Labor-Intensive Jobs - For most people in labor-intensive fields, getting a gently-used smartphone is a no-brainer. Professionals who regularly perform factory work or operate heavy machinery don’t typically want to sink a lot of money into a fancy, expensive new phone that will be at risk on the jobsite. But even workers who hold office jobs may not want a top-dollar phone model in their pocket or purse all day.
  • Less Worry if Lost, Stolen, or Broken - Twenty-five percent of Gazelle’s customers cite a lost, stolen or broken device as the main reason for replacing their phone, making buying a certified pre-owned model not only a practical solution, but also a cost-efficient one.
  • Smart Choice for Kids - Today, most kids -- even those in elementary school -- have some kind of smart device, whether it's an iPad, a smartphone, etc. In fact, a National Consumers League study found that 60% of parents offered their children cell phones at ages 10 or 11, a number that continues to skew younger. However, at six, seven and eight years old, most children do not understand the responsibility of owning a new iPad or smartphone, let alone comprehend the cost of replacing it when it breaks. For parents looking to fit their child with their first cell phone or tablet, a brand new, fragile device may not be the best choice – and for good reason. A gently-used device is a no harm, no foul approach to suiting children with their favorite shiny object.
  • Can Get Around Contractual Obligations to Carriers - One of the biggest reasons that families buy a certified pre-owned phone is to get around contractual obligations to carriers. Americans keep their phones for an average of two years, but some manufacturers are pushing for more rapid device churn. What's more is that many carriers have limited their smartphone offerings, only selling the newest models from particular manufacturers. So if someone’s phone is damaged before their free or discounted upgrade is available, they’re faced with buying a new phone from the carrier at high cost. By purchasing a certified pre-owned phone, consumers get a high-quality phone without having to deal with contracts or strings attached.
  • Carefully Inspected for Quality - A certified pre-owned device is one that has been strictly inspected for any problems or issues that may have developed since the phone was originally shipped from the factory. Highly-trained inspectors look for all sorts of hardware and software issues, aiming to ensure the phone is as functional as when it was originally sold by the manufacturer.

How I schedule reading

Two weeks ago, while talking on the phone to a dear friend of mine, I shared my list of books this month and she teased me for having tons of free time to read. I told her that in reality, despite my best effort to stick with my plan to finish my list of to read books, I always end up reading less now compare before in our old house. One of the reason is the amount of distraction during the day till dawn (seriously, I'm losing afternoon sleep due to noise created by neighbors) what more reading time. I used to read any time of the day but now, all the reading happens at night when all the noise are gone and so far it works for me.

  • I read before going to bed when my eyes are almost ready to close or when I accidentally woke up in the middle of the night. Few pages and I'm back to sleeping.
  • I'm kinda weird when picking books. I usually base it on covers and that's the hardest part for me to do when I choose which book to read first. I came up with the solution of listing first the books then I loaded it into my e-book reader.
  • I read in bed so I can easily change from reading to sleeping position.
  • The number of pages per night will depend on how the story goes. There are times that I'm able to finish few chapters before my eyes give up. Sometimes, few pages.
  • As they say "Life is too short to waste you time reading books you're not connecting with" but I still believe that all books even the bad ones deserved to be discover in order for me to appreciate those books that touches my heart.
  • Night reading is exclusive to books. The rest of the day I try to squeeze in twitter, blog articles and new papers.
  • I don't force myself to read when I'm not in the mood because I will end up rereading it and wasting precious time in the process.

Reading for me is personal. Having a specific time to get lost with a book is one of my favorite thing in the world. It feels awesome. It makes me understand and appreciate the world more. It makes me live a thousand lives.

I've been sharing monthly read here on the blog and I really enjoy sharing my thoughts about the books I read. I hope somehow it gives you idea on what to add to your list and what to avoid.

Apple's next-generation iPhone

**This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.

Make way for the new Apple iPhones by trading in your old iPhone to Gazelle! Apple's next-generation phones are expected to be unveiled next week and have faster processing, more RAM, and integrate the Force Touch technology found in the Apple Watch and some MacBook models.

So out with the old, in with the new, as they say! Trade-in your old iPhone at Gazelle — they'll even pay you cash for it!

Malunggay Pesto Sauce

Basil is my ultimate favorite herb but I don't have the green thumb to keep it alive. Buying them every time I need it would be a costly idea in the long run. Good thing, My mom have a Malunggay tree that is a good alternative for basil and freely available in our small balcony garden. In an instant it became my favorite for homemade pesto sauce and it have tons of health and medicinal uses especially now that my sister is pregnant.

I first read Malunggay pesto recipe from a local food magazine I religiously buy. I got excited and immediately gathered the ingredients. Well, after slaving my self in the kitchen, I was heartbroken because I failed miserably. I followed the instruction carefully but still, I end up having a bitter pasta that night. It was a waste and honestly, I was discouraged. I asked myself what went wrong? Did I missed a step? an ingredients perhaps? That questions drives me crazy for awhile until I had the so called "light bulb moment" I remember eating  Tinolang manok with malunggay. It doesn't taste bitter. It might work. It did work. I never look back since then. It became my go to pesto sauce recipe. I also learned my lesson. Never trust a recipe to work 100% because there's always a secret step that the cook do but refuse to share.

In this recipe, that is the secret step. boiling the leaves for a few minutes then drain. Combine the malunggay leaves with minced garlic and olive oil*** and process until smooth. Transfer to a clean airtight container. Refrigerate sauce until ready to use.

***depend on  your taste. For me, I used 1 garlic bulb then half a cup olive oil. Salt and pepper are optional. Adjust according to your taste.
