Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris|304 pages, I finished this book and I still can't stop thinking about it. It sticks to me like a gum stick to a shoe. It's hard to describe this book without remembering all those horrifying scenarios. I was not prepared to encounter a psychopath character in this book. What you see on the outside can be very deceptive, never ever judge a book by its cover. This book is a page turner thriller that will haunt you for a while. The story is written really well and I highly recommend it.
It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover|384 pages, A few pages before the end, I cried for the characters and how the title makes sense in that one scene. It was heartbreaking. Too heavy for me to react casually. I feel the struggle and pain with the love and understanding mix together to create a love worth fighting and giving up at the same time. This book left me completely speechless.
This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper|339 pages, The book revolves around the Foxman family. The four adult siblings come home to their dad’s funeral and to sit shiva for 7 days because their mother insists it was their non-religious father’s last request. The novel is your basic dysfunctional family relationship story which I love to read, but the story felt really flat, the characters were unlikable. I had a hard time connecting with them. I'm also annoyed with the numerous descriptions of Judd and his family's sex lives. It just felt like filler and if all the sex was removed how much would be left of his story? At one point, I thought I was reading a whining teenage boy. Too much blame for the troubles in his life to others and he was supposed to be a grown man. This book has been made into a movie and it looks like better than the book based on the trailer. I'll be adding this to my list of movie to watch for comparison.
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena|320 pages, This book played with my emotions and turned me into a detective myself. Observing each character and tried to put all of the pieces together. A nerve wrecking story, full of twists and turns that made me question almost every character. I have multiple theories and left my mouth hanging open. It was so good from start to end that when all the truths came crashing down on me, I was wanting for more.
